Hi everyone! I am so thrilled to have you here. My name is Dr. Erin Carter (MD, FRCPC, BSc) and I am the voice behind Pure and Simple Nourishment.
If you have made it here chances are you are one of my friends, or you are passionate about healthy living and good food made with real, wholesome ingredients. I love food, and I love making it. Here on my blog I share recipes that are Paleo, as well as many that are AIP, Whole 30, SCD, GAPS, low FODMAP, Vegan and WAPF compliant. I really don’t care what kind of labels you put on my food, the point is is that it is made with real, nourishing ingredients and free from additives and chemicals.
Why do I eat this way? It is simple. This is the food that my body likes. For years I struggled with diarrhea prone irritable bowl syndrome (IBS) that I could not solve through the help of conventional medicine or alternative medicine treatments. So I did a ton of my own research and this way of eating is what I discovered. It has changed my life. Seriously. Beyond helping my IBS, switching to a paleo diet also got rid of my headaches, heat rashes, sleep disturbances and helped me cure my keratosis pilaris (KP). Needless to say I have become a bit of a real food advocate.
Beyond food I also believe in taking a holistic approach to overall health and wellness. Health is so much more than what you put in your body. What you put on your body is just as important as is fitness and a positive attitude. So from time to time you will also find me posting about safe skin care, general health topics, fitness and exercise, and anything else that I believe can improve your overall wellness. Because I want to help you become your best self. Inside and out!
I am also an internal medicine and rheumatology specialist with a very strong interest in the use of alternative medicine strategies to help patients heal. I truly believe that real, quality food is a form of medicine (despite what most medical doctors will tell you) that can help not only prevent, but treat chronic diseases. There is increasing evidence that many chronic diseases stem from an unhealthy digestive tract, and the easiest way to start healing your gut is through your diet. I have seen some of my patients make dramatic improvements in their health simply by changing their eating habits. My mission is to show you how to do this, and to make you realize that real food can still be delicious, easy, and fun to make.
